She's Gone
This is the most emotional song for me on the CD. I wrote this song last year (2003) in the days inbetween recording sessions for the album "Let it all come down". The most difficult part of recording this song was trying to get the vocals recorded without getting too emotional. I initially recorded it at home and it took several takes. I wrote this song about a dear friend, who suffers from addiction. Addiction to anything is so powerful and so destructive. It can ruin lives, family, self worth and steal personal freedom. As I struggled to find ways to cope with my apparent inability to help her, this night I was feeling the helplessness of the situation. I came to realize, that without divine intervention (putting the Lord into the equation) there seems to be little hope of overcomiing this terrible plague. I also tried to convey the way I percieved some of those who suffer from such and their own denial and unawareness of where they actually are, in terms of their emotional and spiritual state. I realize the song may be a bit redundant and overbearing, as far as the chorus goes, but I feel it demonstrates the gravity and seriousness of the condition. I won't interpret it more than that, as so many have related to this song in so many different ways--I wouldn't want to take anything away from that.
