This is a simple song with a simple message. It's short, the structure not text book -- but that's the way it came out. I was encouraged to write a "full" version of this song, but I thought it would defeat the simplicity of the message if I did. This song came to me as I was in those years in college where one is separated from their family and going forward with their own life--kind of searching for your own family. I had lost my Mother to cancer when I was twelve and I was really feeling a void in that part of my life. As I was dating and thinking about this, I felt that as my relationships would be moving in the permanent direction that in a real sense I would be moving toward this new home--that I was starting to find home. I would feel bits and pieces and hints of where I wanted to go and then I eventually did find it all when I met, courted and married a foxy little girl from Kansas City, Missouri. I am home, but still building it day by day, year by year.
